What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It
On this site, we only manage technical data necessary for the blog’s operation, most of which is stored locally in the user’s browser using cookies (see below). No personal and/or sensitive data is collected.
Comments
When a visitor leaves a comment on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam. An anonymized string (called a hash) may be generated from your email address and provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
The site does not allow users to upload media. However, we recommend removing all metadata (e.g., EXIF) from images intended for online sharing.
Contact Form
If active, our contact form generates an email sent to the site owner, which is typically deleted within thirty days after the request process is completed. Under no circumstances will the data be used for purposes other than those related to the request, shared with third parties, added to mailing lists, or used for commercial or profiling purposes.
Technical Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you don’t have to re-enter your details when leaving another comment. These cookies last for one year. If you have an account and log in to this site, a temporary cookie will be set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. Upon login, several cookies will be set to save your login information and screen display preferences. Login cookies last two days, and screen options cookies last one year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out, the login cookies will be removed. If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article just edited. It expires after one day.
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor had visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
This site does not use third-party analytics services but uses the WpStatistics plugin to track visitor numbers and analyze site usage. WpStatistics do not uses cookies and does not associate the user’s actual IP address with other data. It also uses a technique known as “IP masking,” which removes part of the information, making user identification completely impossible. The web server keeps a list of IP addresses for technical reasons only, such as spam protection and cybersecurity, and they are not linked to individuals.
Who We Share Your Data With
Data is not shared with anyone, and the hosting of this site is on servers fully controlled by the site owner. All servers involved are located within the European Union (Italy and France).
How Long We Retain Your Data
As mentioned, the retention time for contact form data depends on its content but is typically around thirty days. Access statistics are retained for nine months. If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to recognize and automatically approve follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue. For users who register on our site (all of whom have service-related roles), we also store any personal information included in their user profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except for their username, which cannot be changed). Site administrators can also view and edit that information.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where Your Data Is Stored
As previously mentioned, all data is stored on servers located within the European Union, managed with the utmost attention to security. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service (Akismet).
