This image is a complete low-level copy of the contents of a ready-to-use microSD card and includes all the elements required to boot the system (such as the bootloader and system partition). A standard fast microSD card of at least 4 GB is sufficient.

To transfer this image to a microSD card, you need to use a PC, regardless of the operating system, as long as it can read and write this type of storage device. The recommended program is Raspberry Pi Imager, an official tool designed to simplify the preparation of Raspberry Pi cards, downloadable from here. The software allows you to select a custom image, write it to the card, and automatically verify that the process was completed correctly.

At startup, the program provides a guided procedure. The first step asks you to select the Raspberry Pi model on which you intend to use the system.

For the operating system selection, you must choose Use custom image.

At this point, select the previously downloaded image file as it is, without decompressing it. The final step consists of choosing the microSD card onto which the system will be written.

Once the drive is selected, a simple confirmation is requested to start writing and verifying the data.

At the end of the writing process, you must remove and reinsert the card for the next step: configuration editing.

This step can be skipped, in which case the system will configure itself using default values, but it is recommended to take a few extra seconds to customize it.

After reinserting the card, open the memory card drive named booth. Modify the values on the right side of the equals sign with your preferred settings, keeping in mind that the system is case-sensitive and it is better to avoid spaces or special characters.

Once the file is saved, you can eject the memory card and insert it into the Raspberry Pi. When you connect power, the system will start automatically. During the first boot, the system performs all necessary configuration steps, after which it will reboot on its own.

After this short initial phase, the system will be fully operational and ready to use.

The installation process of HamLinux on a Raspberry Pi starts from the system disk image, which can be downloaded here.
